Call for Comment on International Working Agreement Concerning Nonsewered Waste Systems PSAI participates in global s tandard - setting In June 2016 PSAI Executive Director Karleen Kos represented the PSAI at a meeting of global sanitation experts in Singapore. The group had been called together to develop an International Working Agreement (IWA) on standards for nonsewered waste systems and "reinvented toilets" – an essential step towar d addressing the global sanitation crisis. The meeting was hosted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2 WEEKLY EDITION August 24, 2016 World Portable Sanitation Day 2016 Friends of Ngong Road (FONR) is a nonprofit organization that provides educational opportunities to children whose families have been affected by poverty and AIDS. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, FONR also operates a portable sanitation business called Karibu Loo. The business aims to provide p ortable sanitation options in this struggling part of the world and, in so doing, address sanitation issues, provide employment for the graduates of its educational programs, and generate resources that can be used to educate more children. To assist FON R in their work, the PSAI's Education Initiative committed a portion of its earnings on the sale of World Portable Sanitation Day merchandise to help them. Paula said, "We are so appreciative of this gift and thrilled to be involved with the PSAI. We have a lot to learn about the portable sanitation business, and we are thankful for the deep resources the PSAI can offer our new company."
