ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION JUNE 23, 2021 Page 14 Why Portable Sanitation Should Be a Respected Alternative…continued from page 13 First off, many portable sanitation suppliers have companies that will take care of everything necessary for their units. They will deliver them, clean them, and pick them up making it stress free for the company or event that needs the units. These companies offer many types of options to find what is best for the customer. This normally all happens at an affordable price and is not a complicated process. Secondly, portable sanitation is easily movable and doesn't take up a giant space. One other benefit of these types of sanitation is that, "According to the Portable Sanitation Association, portable restrooms save 125 million gallons of fresh water each day, or 45 billion gallons each year. Americans use 100 gallons of water every day, and flushing the toilet repeatedly uses more water than any other activity, including showering." (Heffernan Insurance Brokers) The main cause of this negative view comes from people's experiences with the cleanness of these portable sanitation units. Everyone assumes every station is dirty and some refuse to use them unless they absolutely need to. There are many things to prevent and help with this problem, but keeping them clean at all times is nearly impossible. There are factors like how much they get cleaned, how much the certain unit has been used, and how many units are available. Each station has multiple features to help with this problem such as the blue liquid in the toilet to hide what is in it and make it smell better. There are vents with holes as well as to help create air circulation which also gets rid of the smell. This is why things such as hand washing and sanitizing stations are options to come with the toilets to create a better experience for the user. Other factors are in control by the companies ordering these units based on what they order and how much the units are services. In conclusion, this negative stigma against portable sanitation is unfair and needs to be changed. To change the mind of the public so they respect it as an alternative, action must be taken. This step starts with creating awareness and showing the positive side of these great companies. There is so much work behind the scenes done to create the best final product for the customers. This might not always be perfect, but this stigma is not necessary. Portable sanitation has so many benefits that no one sees and it is a much needed business in today's world.
