I [will] then search for a business-related job and continue to work my way up in the company. Finally, I would like to be able to provide for my family and retire by the age of 60." Alex's winning essay can be found below. Congratulations Alex! Why Portable Sanitation Should Be a Respected Alternative P ortable sanitation is essential to a variety of businesses, events, and construction sites. Portable sanitation is not just portable toilets as some people may assume. There are also hand washing facilities and hand sanitizing products offered as well. Portable sanitation is a great business, but it is held back by an unfair stigma. Portable sanitation should be a respected alternative in the minds of the public because it offers so much more than what it is portrayed to be and many do not see its true benefits. The minds of the public in today's society can be easily swayed to believe one thing and never change their ideas on that specific topic. One reason for this stigma on portable sanitation is people love to always speak on the negatives first before any of the positives. One place where you can see the negatives on anything is social media. Anyone at any time can speak their minds for the world to see. For example, if one person has a negative experience with portable sanitation, they can share this with everyone on social media. Everyone who sees this instantly creates that negative stigma against these portable sanitation companies. Changing this stigma about portable sanitation in the minds of the public can be difficult to do. The first thing that must be done is to create awareness on the topic. Companies must show these people the true benefits and positive sides of portable sanitation. All types of companies will have negative and positive moments; not everything can be perfect for companies at this level. Communication and resources can help many of these problems that can cause these negative views. Portable sanitation has many benefits that should easily make it a respected alternative. This vital business has been around since the 1940s. "According to the Minneapolis Porta Potty Pros, they decided to construct small, portable cubicles that were made with wood or metal, that contained a small holding tank. As a result, more work got done, workers were happier, and the portable toilet industry was birthed." (Nisly Brothers) Continued on page 14
