ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION JUNE 23, 2021 Page 12 History of the PSAI Scholarship Program…continued from page 11 As Mike explains, "Retirement just meant that Dad had more time to visit with industry friends and to take longer motorcycle rides." We lost George on January 10, 2020, and in my remembrance article for him, longtime friend Dwayne Siegmann, formerly of Chem Can in Enid, Oklahoma, said it best: "RIP—Ride in Peace, George." Mike sold A-Throne in late 2020 and has now begun his own version of "retirement" which will probably be remarkably similar to that of his dad. Final Thoughts Our industry began as a series of family businesses dedicated to serving the public by providing portable sanitation. From having to build the unit from scratch that they would have to eventually service, this was an arduous task that involved many family members and friends. Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, cousins, friends…all of these remarkable individuals helped to build the industry and the Association that we enjoy today. Thank you so much to Bill Reynolds, Jr., Ray Luden, Jr., Ron Crosier, and Mike Rice for sharing personal and cherished memories of your amazing fathers. v A Personal Aside I recall one of those motorcycle rides quite vividly. In 2008, George Rice, Mike Rice, Dwayne Siegmann, and Clyde Sansom honored Terri and me by stopping at our company, Pit Stop Sanitation in Atlanta, on their way to the PSAI Convention in Daytona Beach. In addition to visiting with us and showing us their Harley Davidson bikes, they met another friend who would join them for the remainder of the ride, Todd Hilde from Satellite in Minnesota. Oh, to have been able to record the remainder of that trip! Finally, just to confuse people at the Convention, the whole crew wore Pit Stop hats when they arrived which created quite a stir. Those were some fun times! Special Request As this series of articles continues during our 50th anniversary year, and as the update of "PSAI Through the Decades" is composed, we would greatly appreciate any articles, stories, remembrances, or any other information that you could share to assist in the preservation and the publication of the amazing history of our industry and our PSAI. Email Jeff or call him at 770-206-0794. THANK YOU!
