W EEKLY EDITION JUNE 6, 2018 2018 Industry Survey Reveals Progress, Prosperity, and Growing Concerns …continued By Karleen Kos, PSAI Executive Director One of the perceived weaknesses of prior surveys was the comparatively small number of responses from nonmembers. This year's energetic outreach produced both higher total responses and a better mix of respondents. Consequently, we can look at several key questions through multiple lenses. Of the total companies responding, 99 state they are currently Members. This represents 23% of the total membership and constitutes a representative sample. Part I: The Association, Membership and Membership Drivers Companies that are currently Members of the PSAI seem to be of common mind in the reasons for their involvement. Not surprisingly, there are some commonalities and some differences between operators and suppliers. Operators note the following values most commonly: • Networking and peer learning • Industry information – news, trends, best practices • Improving/maintaining industry standards • PSAI as the voice/advocate for the industry While the networking and peer learning has been a great value for Members since day one of the PSAI's existence, it's important to note that networking was very nearly the only value respondents in PSAI surveys in 2014 and 2015 could name in those years. It is encouraging to see the Association's Members beginning to name other aspec ts of the PSAI's activities as valuable. It appears to confirm that the organization's strategic plan is on the right track in delivering bett er value to Members. Here are a few representative comments shared as submitted to convey the essence of the them es noted above. What is the most important reason you are a (Operator) Member of the PSAI? [PSAI is] a great way of meeting people in the same type of industries and learning what works for their sanitation company and getting some good feedback. There's is always a lot to learn from this organization.
