It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's a Portable Restroom A strong gust of wind did plenty of damage when it sent a portable unit flying off of a moving truck Whoops, there goes a potty! A por table toilet went airborne last week when a shoreline crosswind snapped it off a moving truck and presented it to the Jeep Wrangler following behind it. The Jeep suffered a smashed windshield and dented fender, and the pride of the truck driver may have also been a bit beat up . This is a good reminder to double - strap those units! READ THE STORY P AGE 7 Update on Development of an International Standard for "Next Generation" Toilets Two years ago the PSAI joined with representatives from ANSI, ISO, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop a new international working agreement (IWA) for "next generation" toilets. Once the IWA was done, the PSAI continued to work through the US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to help transform the IWA into an ISO standard. That work is now nearly complete. Recently, representatives of the standard's working group presented the overall requirements of the draft standard at the first Chinese out reach meeting in Shanghai. The meeting was attended by Chinese government officials, academics, and local toilet manufacturers. It appears that China will be supportive of the new standard, now known as ISO DIS 30500: Non - sewered sanitation systems - Prefa bricated integrated treatment units - General safety and performance requirements for design and testing. In two weeks, the final ISO meeting on the new standard will be held in Nepal. The document itself is slated for publication as a full ISO standard la ter this summer. While the toilet designs for which this standards has been developed are not necessarily portable, the technology is likely to have impacts on our industry in the coming years.
