W EEKLY EDITION JAN 10, 2018 Reminder: Open Comment Period on New International Standard for Non - sewered Sanitation Systems By PSAI Executive Director Karleen Kos In 2016 the PSAI engaged with experts from 31 countries around the world to create a standard for a new generation of toilets. These units are generally prefabricated toilets with an integrated, non - sewered treatment system. While they are not necessarily portable as we currently think of the term, these designs will likely have a profound impact on our industry in the next five to fifteen years. These technologies aspire to • make it easier for people to use a toilet that requires no on site power or water, • processes waste on the spot, • be both affordable and dignified for users, • and offer operators a sustainable business model The development of the new standard has now rea ched the point where each nation represented at the table is responsible for commenting on the draft. The PSAI will do so along with other partners in the US effort via the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) although individual PSAI Member compan ies located in other participating nations are welcome to send comments to their standards body as well. If you would like to review the draft and provide feedback, please request a copy of the relevant documents from the PSAI office ( info@psai.org ). Comm ents are due back to the PSAI by January 22, 2018. PAGE 7
