WEEKLY EDITION July 26, 2017
Question of the Week:
What is OSHA's definition of "sanitary"?
By Karleen Kos, PSAI Executive Director
Every week the PSAI handles a dozen or more questions from portable
restroom operators, government officials, and members of the public
regarding some aspect of our industry. When issues come up that would
benefit many PROs, we do the research and print the answers so everyone can
benefit.
This week's question comes from a portable restroom operator
in the western United States:
"A contract we recently signed requires us to maintain
portable restrooms and wash stations up to OSHA
standards. OSHA states they need to be kept in "sanitary condition," but I can't seem to find specific
language in the standard on how "sanitary" is defined. Do you have information on standards for
filling, maintaining and cleaning other than OSHA?"
Company Spotlight:
Lemon Trees Toilet Hire
Someone once said, "Opportunities don't happen – you create them."
I don't know if that is true for everyone, but it certainly seems to be the
case for Pieter and Hanlie Jamneck, founders of Lemon Trees Toilet
Hire based in greater Pretoria, South Africa. Their company dates back
to the middle 1990s. Throughout its history the firm has constantly
evolved to make the most of changing circumstances and to establish a
unique identity in the portable restroom rental space.
I had the opportunity to meet with the Jamnecks while I was visiting
South Africa in June. They drove some 6 hours from their home – a kind
and delightful gesture that made for a wonderful conversation about
their company, sanitation in Africa, and their vision for both in the
future. (Pictured left to right: Karleen Kos, Hanlie and Pieter Jamneck)
