W EEKLY EDITION MAY 3, 2017 Member Spotlight: Pit Stop Sanitation Services Get to know your f ellow PSAI Members, Jeff and Terri Wigley, from Atlanta, GA In 1995, Jeff Wigley was working for IBM in Atlanta, Georgia, when a friend of his interviewed with PolyPortables. According to him, with the 1996 summer Olympic games heading to Atlanta the foll owing year, there would not be enough portable restrooms in Atlanta to service all of the out of town traffic. While the idea seemed unusual, Jeff took this comment and realized he had found quite the opportunity. With just a truck and 30 units, Pit Stop S anitation Services was born. Jeff left IBM, and as the Olympics rolled into town in 1996, the need for portable units proved to be real . Although Pit Stop units weren't found directly at the archery competition or at the track and field events, business to ok off as teams and spectators from all over the world flooded the city. Jeff admitted that he originally worried the success would be short lived, only lasting the year thanks to the games. He is glad to assure anyone who asks that business blossomed. A tlanta had received plenty of international acclaim, causing the city to grow and refurbish its image. As new buildings went up , the construction business was there for the taking. They already had a solid event business, so they continued on and began ser vicing construction sites. The name Pit Stop Sanitation stems from Jeff's love of car racing. He wanted to ensure that the company's name was unique and professional, but also that it coordinated – it turns out that the Wigleys own a property management c ompany named Checkered Flag Properties, which ties in perfectly with Pit Stop Sanitation. Along with that, there is certainly a clev er correlation between using the restroom and "making a pit stop!" Jeff also shared that back when Pit Stop got started in t he 90's, the yellow pages were still a major form of advertising. Using their checkerboard logo to brand the company, Pit Stop Sanitation's ad stood out perfectly in the book, thanks to their black and yellow look. As the company grew, Jeff's wife Terri decided to make the leap with him. Terri, who also worked at IBM, remained there as Pit Stop Sanitation got started. Once things looked sustainable, she joined Jeff and became Pit Stop's President in 1998. They've b een working together ever since. Pit Stop Sanitation is proud to be certified by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) as a woman - owned and operated business. This has helped the company win contracts and stand out i n a predominantly male industry. As Jeff states, "Terri Wigley is the backbone of Pit Stop." In 2012, as ma ny PSAI Members are aware, our A ssociation went through a large structure change. Jeff was PSAI President during this exceptionally hectic and busy period, which took a drastic amount of his time and attention a way from Pit Stop's day - to - day activities. Terri really stepped up at this time, running the company on her own while Jeff spent much of his time at the PSAI office in Minneapolis. She did exceptionally well and has continued to raise the ir company to new heights since. P AGE 2 CONTINUED ON PAGE 3
