ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION JULY 7, 2021 Page 6 Over the years, several other large special events came to the Reno-Sparks area. In 1982 the Great Reno Balloon Race was founded and in 1986 the Hot August Night concerts and nostalgic car show began. • Reno Rodeo—10-day Event = 140,000 spectators • National Championship Air Races and Air Show = 200,000 spectators • Reno Balloon Race = 140,000 spectators • "Hot August Night" = 800,000 spectators Sani-Hut was a Charter Member of the Portable Sanitation Association in 1971. Over the years, Fred Sr lived up to his company's goals of helping people and sharing with others through his involvement in the Association. He served on the Board as well as on several committees, and he took an active role in the establishing the foundation of the new PSA. In 1995, Fred Cutler Sr was the third recipient the Andy Gump Award, following Clyde Sansom and George Harding. With the enormous impact on our industry and on our Association by both Clyde and George, Fred's contributions were truly monumental as well. Fred Cutler Jr assumed control of Sani-Hut in 1972 while Fred Sr was beginning his work with the PSA. According to Fred Jr, "With the hand-made wooden units and the 'rocket shaped' fiberglass units that we were purchasing from a company down in Sacramento, being replaced by the polyethylene units of today, Sani-Hut became recognizable with its inventory of pink and blue restroom units and its commitment to quality customer service." Both father and son had similar views on operating Sani-Hut. According to Fred Jr, "My Dad and I have always been very aware of the costs of doing business. We do not cut our prices. We provide quality service at a quality price." He continues, "Consistency is the key to any business." Under Fred Jr's leadership, the company began to expand into other areas in their growing community while being aware of the financial results. Sani-Hut has produced portable office buildings, storage buildings, and concessions buildings. Additional construction-related products include temporary power, trash management, and safety barriers. The company also has a site cleanup service where plastics are sorted for recycling. One of the most innovative and creative offerings is picnic tables! Sani-Hut rents these as part of its packages for special events. Fred Jr has also been an avid supporter of the PSAI. He explains, "I worked with Clyde Sansom and his committee in 1986 with the University of Missouri Study. If you look at the original charts, at the bottom, you will see a reference to FACIV. That would be me—Fred A Cutler IV." Fred Jr continues the Cutler tradition of providing consistently high-quality customer service provided by dedicated employees, all while maintaining financial control. "Repeat" is the nickname of Fred Cutler V—Fred Jr's son and Fred Sr's grandson. Repeat Cutler now serves as General Manager and literally grew up in the business. His earliest memories are of, "Grandpa in the shop constructing wooden units." He has kept his grandfather's plans Fathers and Sons of the PSAI Part II…continued from page 3 Fact: These large special events have grown to the point that the visitors they draw can exceed the entire population of Reno which is estimated at 514,000 today.
