Staying Safe in South Texas
During the power and water outages caused by the recent
winter storms in Texas, the City of Galveston—an island
south of Houston—supplied residents with portable toilets.

Being homeless is hard at the best of times, but it's even harder
during a pandemic. Many public buildings where residents
could use a public bathroom before the pandemic are now
locked. As a result, due to a persistent shortage of accessible
public toilets in Salt Lake City, the County Health Department
is dealing with a rising tide of bio-waste at area homeless
encampments and asking people to leave so they can clean up.
There are only 33 portable toilets in the city. More are essential.

debris, admitted that the city should have done more to
make sure the units were cleaned earlier and more frequently.
Next time, he said, "We will hire somebody that is on the
grounds full-time, doing nothing but cleaning each unit."
