ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION MARCH 3, 2021 Page 28 Mike Salazar Honored for Forty Years with Andy Gump Co PSAI's 2004 Service Technician of the Year has spent more than four decades with west coast leader F or many people, being named a PSAI Service Technician of the Year is a career pinnacle. But for Mike Salazar, it's old news. Since winning the award in 2004, he has logged another 17 years of service at the Andy Gump Company, for a grand total of more than 40 years (and still going!) at the west coast firm and a lifetime career in portable sanitation. Mike Salazar started his career at Andy Gump in 1981 as a part time janitor. He was working full time at Lockheed at the time, and the extra hours at Andy Gump were helpful for a young man starting out. When Lockheed started closing its local operations a few years later, Mike approached then-owner Barry Gump about picking up extra hours at the company. Barry readily agreed. Mike went through training provided by the Andy Gump Company and began work as a pumper. He started running routes, and never looked back. Mike spent most of his 40-year career as a service technician, earning the prestigious honor of Service Tech of the Year after 23 years with the company. As time has gone by, Mike's work has continued to evolve. He is now yard- based, stocking trucks with supplies and filling them with water so they are all ready to go out from Andy Gump's North Hollywood Facility. He is responsible for 24 trucks daily. Nancy Gump, Vice President and CEO of the Andy Gump Company says, "Mike has been such a faithful member of our team. We are very proud of his hard work, dedication, and loyalty to Andy Gump."
