ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION SEPTEMBER 2, 2020 Page 3 Restroom Trailers: Thoughts and Trends in 2020…continued from page 1 Continued on page 4 The operators I interviewed represent different parts of the country and each company is unique in size, inventory of trailers, customer base, as well as time in the industry. With this wide diversity, the trends that each observes deserves the attention of fellow operators. Each volunteer received the following general questions to guide our conversation: • In general terms, how is the trailer rental this year? How does it compare to previous years? • Are there certain types of trailers that are more popular this year? • Are there any special COVID-19 cleaning procedures that you would like to share? • What do you see in the future of trailers? • Any concerns or suggestions? Tom Harris—New England Restrooms, North Reading, Massachusetts New England Restrooms services Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, and Martha's Vineyard. The company offers restroom trailers and restroom showers in addition to portable units. Tom shared the following thoughts: "Trailer rental this year has changed from last year. [The requests for] shower trailer rentals are incredible." He has also seen the trend to smaller trailers in 2020 and sees that continuing in 2021. New England Restrooms has a three-stall shower trailer and an ADA shower trailer that have been exceedingly popular. Customers in the health care industry, as well as some manufacturing businesses, need shower trailers now due to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tom has a very thorough COVID-19 cleaning procedure prior to any trailer rental. He explains: "The trailers are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized and then sit three days on the yard. At the conclusion of the event, the trailers are thoroughly cleaned, bleached, and then allowed to sit for two days before going out again." This protocol is highly effective and a great example of an operator putting the safety of the customer and the public first and foremost. As far as any concerns or suggestions, Tom observes that since most stand alone sink stations cannot provide hot (or tepid) water nor function in cold weather, either sink stations that are enhanced or sink trailers will grow significantly in use and popularity. Preston Duffie—Royal Restroom of Georgia, Augusta, Georgia Preston describes the 2020 trailer rental season as "different." Royal Restrooms saw many large special events canceled and/or postponed. Among these events is the Masters Golf Tournament which is currently scheduled from November 12th to 15th if COVID-19 does not require additional timing changes. This large event is traditionally held in April so trailer rentals in the spring were down. Royal Restrooms has been fortunate to pick up several COVID-19 testing and other health related rentals. According to Preston, "These are smaller trailers that are used in these circumstances." Tom Harris
