ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION AUGUST 5, 2020 Page 16 Economic Outlook, Part II: Ideas from across the US…Continued from page 15 Becky views the current economy as, "a shift in priorities from fun to safety. As a result, our special events have suffered immensely. However, on our construction side, our services have increased as well as hand sanitizer and hand washing rentals." Waste Solutions has risen to this challenge and continued to provide top-notch service. She continues "we have felt the effect but mostly it has been a shift in needs." Comparing 2020 to last year, Becky says that "overall our company is performing better than last year. A lot of that has to do with the changes that we have made, putting systems in place and organization." Looking forward, Becky, like most of us, "has no real idea of what the future economy holds," but her advice of great customer service and organization are the keys to future success. Becky's advice to members is to "keep putting your best foot forward, change with the needs of the industry and always remember that we are a service industry. If we keep thinking on how we can best serve our customer that is half of the battle." Wimberly Venegas—South Texas Waste Systems Founded in 2004, South Texas Waste Systems serves a large area encompassing small towns, rural counties, a large military base, and Laredo, the largest inland port in the United States. They provide a wide array of portable restroom equipment including standard units for construction, deluxe units for special events, restroom trailers for special events, and portable showers. The company has also diversified into providing temporary fence rental, holding tank rental, and septic tank cleaning services. Wimberly views the current economy as "stable in terms of the construction industry with event sales being significantly down." Overall, "we are doing about the same as last year in terms of overall sales." South Texas Waste is yet another company that has seen the increase in construction sales and the demand for sinks and hand sanitizing stations offset the lack of special events during this time of quarantine. She anticipates "an increase in event sales in 2021 as the economic health of the country improves." The company has an adequate special event inventory to meet that demand when it does return. Wimberly's advice: "Keep your head up." She continues, "We pride ourselves on our service and that continues regardless of the economic times." South Texas Waste is proud of their commitment to using best practices to provide top notch service to all their customers.
