ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION AUGUST 5, 2020 Page 15 Economic Outlook, Part II: Ideas from across the US…Continued from page 10 Continued on page 16 Edmunds has maintained their performance on a year-to-year basis even though the mix of construction to special event sales has been altered. Susan points out that the housing market could be slowed as unemployment numbers are still high and that new commercial projects could also slow as more people are staying at home. For the future, Susan expects hand wash stations and hand sanitizing stations "will be the extras that customers will continue to expect and to order." These products, as well as increased weekly service on units at job sites will "be the new standard." Susan's advice to other member companies is "to stay in touch with the PSAI and to participate in the [virtual] roundtables. You will know what is going on across the country as well as stay up to date 'best practices' in our industry." According to Susan, "This year our membership in the PSAI has been worth every penny!" Brett Roques—Pit Stop Sanitation Services Now in its 25th year, Pit Stop Sanitation Services has been owned by Brett Roques for the past three years. He brings a wealth of financial experience and innovation to his company. Pit Stop's service area is Atlanta and the metropolitan area, and the company offers the complete array of standard portable sanitation products: restrooms, sinks, holding tanks, and trailers. Prior to joining Pit Stop in 2012 as general manager, Brett was a mortgage loan originator and earned his certification as a chartered financial analyst. He has a firm handle on Pit Stop's financial position in terms of the local area's current and future economic outlook. "We are slightly ahead of last year's results but with a very different product mix," Brett reports. "I view the Pit Stop customer base as a three-legged stool. We have homebuilders and renovators, commercial builders, and events. Thus far in 2020, homebuilding and commercial construction have held up the stool as events have been very sparse." Brett has implemented "a more flexible and faster response to commercial customers as orders have increased." He is implementing new tracking and billing software to increase efficiency in a marketplace "that can sometimes be fast and out of control." Brett's thought is that by providing a fast and efficient response to those customers in need, "we will seal the deal" in terms of future relationships with these customers. He is also looking at a new customer base for hand wash and hand sanitizer use including schools, day care, parks, retail and commercial locations, and other public sites where this equipment will be "the new standard." As far as the future, he sees "a larger awareness of our industry" which will be of benefit as the economy continues to rebound and to expand. At some point, he warns, "homebuilding will have to slow down but special events will have rebounded." Brett's advice: "Use this time as a great opportunity to analyze your business as well as to update and to improve your systems. Think of service and your cost of doing business and your financial picture will improve." Becky Peltzer—Waste Solutions of Iowa Founded in 1981, Waste Solutions of Iowa has been "transformed and revolutionized" recently by its new owners, Becky and Tim Peltzer. This dynamic couple has implemented GPS tracking and up-to-the-minute route management software. The company specializes in portable toilets, commercial and grease interceptor cleaning, as well as commercial and residential roll-off dumpster service. Brett Roques Becky Peltzer
