ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION JUNE 10, 2020 Page 11 Checking in with Members: 2020 Trends and Topics…continued from page 3 Continued on page 12 Jan Bentley, Nancy Perez, and Keri Madden went on to cite a few examples for their businesses that other Members should consider. Jan specifically mentioned the world-renowned Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta. "After postponement from April to November, there is a real possibility that no spectators will be at this event which will greatly reduce the numbers of units and equipment that Portable Services provides." Nancy Perez states a similar sentiment with several large events in her portion of Texas. Keri Madden's company has scheduled weddings and several of those are being rescheduled. According to Keri, "About 75 percent of our events have been canceled for 2020 and, of those, about 80 percent have already re-booked for 2021." Steve Finley's conversations with other operators reveals that "the consensus is that the dent in spring special revenue has been somewhat cushioned by the increase in multiple weekly services in the construction marketplace." Do You Have Adequate PPE and Hand Wash Supplies? None of the respondents reported any shortages of PPE. Most are keeping watch on their PPE inventory levels, and they reorder before quantities are depleted. Nancy Perez states that she "normally keeps a month's supply in stock." Hand sanitizer gel has been an issue with each of the respondents at certain times. As previously discussed, Bob Earl purchased a 55-gallon drum of sanitizer and reuses empty bags. Steve Finley has also spoken to operators that use bag refilling as a "stop gap measure." Have You Experienced Challenges with Disposal? Two of our respondents noted that they have experienced issues with disposal. Happily, both were able to find a way to properly dispose of their waste. Tom Stange stated that the local wastewater treatment facility was "on lock down" as a safety precaution to the inspectors at the facility. After making several calls to local officials, Tom was instrumental in the "installation of a camera at the manhole location whereby we would transmit our manifest in advance of disposal." The facility had the manifest in advance and then the camera would later show Tom's trucks arriving at the facility. "Where there is a will, there is a way," Tom says. Jan Bentley also reported that a local county in South Carolina, where her company has a large concentration of construction customers, is not allowing disposal of portable restroom waste. She has overcome this challenge by altering the company's routing and scheduling trips to neighboring facilities. Did You Qualify to Receive Any Government Stimulus Funds? The PPP (Paycheck Protection Program) was the stimulus fund that our respondents mentioned most often as being relevant to their firms. Bob Earl, Jan Bentley, Tom Stange, and Nancy Perez qualified for and received funds. Jan Bentley (+ granddaughter) Keri Madden Tom Stange Steve Finley
