We've gone months with multiple construction services per week. Special events have been rescheduled or canceled. Increased demand for and dwindling supplies of hand wash sinks and sanitizers is ongoing. Extra PPE and social distancing requirements are the new normal…all due to a worldwide pandemic that we haven't seen for 100 years. So, how is business? With the extra workload and new challenges that face all portable sanitation operators, this year the PSAI decided that the Annual Survey should be replaced with a representative scan of Members in various areas of North America. To do that, we interviewed portable restroom operators of varying sizes and experiences in New York, Georgia, Ohio, Texas, California, and Ontario, Canada. We also spoke to a supplier Member to elicit that perspective. Read on to understand common trends and topics among portable sanitation professionals this year. Continued on page 2 Continued on page 3 Checking in with Members: An Analysis of 2020 Trends and Topics By Jeff Wigley, PSAI Past President New OSHA Requirement: Employers Must Investigate Whether Employees' COVID-19 Cases Are Work-Related By Karleen Kos, PSAI Executive Director Guidance issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on May 26 changed requirements for employers when an employee gets COVID-19. OSHA now says all employers need to conduct an investigation to determine if an employee who is ill contracted the COVID-19 virus at work or as the result of work-related activities. OSHA's latest guidance expands the April 10, 2020 guidance which only required work-related determinations by certain employers such as those in the health care industry, emergency-response organizations, and correctional institutions.
