W EEKLY EDITION JULY 10, 2019 Remembering Clyde Sansom By Jeff Wigley, Past President, PSAI Board of Directors …Continued from page 2 Clyde also personally showed me every feature and benefit of the High Tech portable restroom unit that he manufactured in his other business, Synergy World. I was sold on this unit and sold on this industry as a result of Clyde's generosity and commitment to help others in his industry. On my last day in St Louis, Clyde provided one final piece of advice tha t literally changed my life. He shared his love of the industry association, the Portable Sanitation Association International. Clyde stated that he had learned countless lessons; he had shared numerous facts, and had made many dear and wonderful friends hips in the PSAI. He offered to sponsor my soon - to - be - formed company, Pit Stop, for the first year. What a kind and generous person! Clyde left me with one quote, which I have shared before and it bears repeating. "DON'T JOIN THE PSAI, IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET INVOLVED." After I returned home, reviewed the copious notes from my visit – as many of you know, I am an avid note taker – Clyde's generosity and openness had a very profound effect on me. After I had ordered my first 30 (used - I couldn't afford new) High Tech units from Clyde I began to put Clyde's wisdom to work for Pit Stop. Clyde gave us one of his first Taurus units to test and to evaluate. We told Clyde that he was our mentor and we frequently reminded him of our appreciation. Synergy W orld had other innovative and successful products, and Clyde's influence in the industry continued to grow. At the annual Pumper Show in Nashville he was always in his booth, eager to discuss his products and how they could benefit your business. Just as with his office in St Louis, he was in the "center of the action" in the Synergy Booth. He could have met with other executives and larger operators at these shows but he chose instead to be there for everyone – large and small customer alike. Even as large as Synergy grew, Clyde would always find the time to stop by Pit Stop when he was visiting relatives in Georgia. One of our favorite visits from Clyde was when he, George Rice, Mike Rice, and Todd Hilde came to Pit Stop, left their vehicles, and be gan a motorcycle ride to the PSAI Convention in Daytona Beach. Once there, they all sported Pit Stop hats throughout the Convention – raising a lot of eyebrows and initiating many jokes.
