WEEKLY EDITION SEPTEMBER 12, 2018 Join the Board for Service With a Smile The nomination time for the Board is here By Dwayne Siegmann, past PSAI Board President It is my pleasure to announce the opening of the nomination process for new Board members for the PSAI. Okay, for some of you, that may not stir your heart and soul as much as the opening of deer season, but it is certainly an event worthy of your attention if you are involved in the portable sanitation industry. The PSAI has made great strides over the last few years. The credit for this runs from the Executive Director through the Board of Directors — including our past members, current members and even future members. Every time you pay your dues or attend an event, it all contributes to the success of our organization. The question I want to pose to you today is, "Are you ready to get more from your membership? Are you ready to give something back to an industry that has given so much to us all?" In reviewing previous Past Presidents' letters asking Members to consider serving on the Board, I found a quote from Albert Einstein that Ron Crosier used: "It is everyone's obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what they take out of it." [Note: See Page 4 for the election timeline and Page 6 for candidate guidelines.] Question of the Week: Hand Sanitizer vs Soap and Water Simple question, but various hand-wringing answers By Karleen Kos, PSAI Executive Director Every week the PSAI handles questions from portable restroom operators (PROs), government officials, and members of the public regarding some aspect of our industry. When issues come up that would benefit many PROs, we do the research and print the answers so everyone can benefit. This week's question comes from an operator. Q: Is it acceptable to substitute hand sanitizer for hand wash stations? Some customers prefer it, and it is certainly less messy at an event site – but I'm not sure if it is legal. The short answer to this question is "it depends." The right answer in one situation is not necessarily the best answer for another; the unique circumstances of each event or location will carry the day. First, let's look at hand washing with soap and water versus hand sanitizer from a purely scientific point of view. We can probably all agree that providing the means for hand washing is important for promoting public health as well as for bolstering the revenue of portable sanitation companies.
