W EEKLY EDITION A UGUST 1, 2018 Looking at the Fiscal Year Ahead for the PSAI, Part II ANDERSON CONTINUED FROM PAGE 8 The PSAI's Strategic Plan sets the following goals for the next three to five years in the areas of public information, education and adv ocacy. 1. Drive the Board - approved industry repositioning strategy forward. a. Identify specific deliverables for each fiscal year for inclusion in the Board - approved annual operating plan, and work throughout the year to accomplish them. b. Develop and publicize positive data, messages, and articles regarding the positive attributes and impacts of portable sanitation. c. Provide new and updated copy for the PSAI website and other publications. This section of the Plan also makes a point of collaborating with the Wor ld Toilet Organization and other global non - government organizations to promote World Toilet Day on November 19 annually and to co - promote World Portable Sanitation Day. Some of these I discussed in last week's newsletter, but some points bear repeating wi th a slight expansion. Some specific goals include developing an outreach program for the media and for Members to promote the currently - being - updated Missouri Study. There are also ideas for developing interest not just in World Toilet Day, but also for the Urgent Run, the Nut s and Bolts Conference and the Convention. S specific goals and broader ones fit in with what was already started well before I arrived here with the Education Initiative (EI). And so much of this revolves around the "repositioning" that I wrot e about previously: Coordination, message development, and outreach; develop funding for public messaging campaigns; identifying and connecting key influencers; and "sell a vision to key groups." What is the vision? To create a groundswell through multi - pr onged strategies and "connect the dots" to spread positive messages about the Industry and counter - act the negative ones. The final piece of the strategies in the Operating and Budget Plan to address today is related to the Standards and Industry Guidance Initiative. Here the Plan sets goals that go beyond just a public campaign or media relations; rather, it seeks to come up with best practices for the whole industry. This, of course, will go a long way toward repositioning in the public view and furtheri ng the Education Initiative. But it's also crucial to what it means inside the Industry. One of the goals calls for the development of standards for portable restroom trailers. The Plan calls for preparation for the PSAI's audit by the American National S tandards Institute (ANSI) scheduled for 2019. It also calls for PSAI participation in developing new international standards on non - sewered waste systems. CONTINUED ON PAGE 10 P AGE 9
