W EEKLY EDITION JULY 25, 2018 C ONTINUED ON PAGE 13 P AGE 3 Repositioning the Industry ANDERSON CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 For starters, I had never heard of such a thing, let alone thought of it. A nd I'll admit that, with my 30 - year high school reunion approaching, I rapidly ran through all of the jokes my former classmates would no doubt aim at me when I told them what I did . But the obvious jokes aside (haven't we heard them all?), when I intervi ewed for the position, I came away with the sincere hope that I would be offered the job. When I realized what the PSAI and indeed the entire industry were about, my attitude changed . There were no misgivings: I wanted to be completely on board. This says a lot about how I hope to form and shape what Executive Director Karleen Kos has already put in motion: A strategic focus for a "repositioning" of the portable sanitation industry. Now that the Operating Plan and Budget for FY 2018 - 19 has been established, many of the objectives come into sharper relief. On the communications side, this involves several Board - approved, moving pieces at once. For starters, content transfer from our old website to a new one with better software to coordinate our database is absolute priority number one. It's a big move, and a somewhat painstaking one that ultimately will lead to a better web experience for all visitors -- casual surfers and Members alike. There will be an ability to join or renew online, purc hase and register online and easier access to members - only content. T hen there are the dependables: Getting media in order for the upcoming Nuts and Bolts Educational Conference, the Urgent Run and the Trade Show and Convention in the spring. Then there i s a collaboration with the World Toilet Organization to promote World Toilet Day on November 19 and co - promote World Portable Sanitation Day. These come with some tangibles on the communications side, such as an updated toolkit for companies, press release s in the fall, and coloring pages for kids. Developing a new publication on best practices for portable sanitation professionals to replace the old training manual is a goal. Updated materials and messages concerning the value of membership, tools, and pr ograms available to Members is another objective. And, of course, there is the Industry Resource Directory.
