You Can't Ignore This Pop - Up Portable
A Winnipeg arc hitect has built a bright orange public restroom "structure" in an effort to raise awareness
for the lack of public toilets in the area
Winnipeg is joining the list of cities around the globe
focusing on revamping their public toilet facilities in
their d owntown area. Or, maybe we should say they
are recreating them. In this lengthy but informative
piece from Winnipeg Free Press we learn the history of
public washrooms in the city, once called Comfort
Stations, and why they were destroyed decades later.
Wi ns Bridgman, founder of BridgmanCollaborative
Architecture is launching his design, Pop - Up Winnipeg
Public Toilet. Bridgman, a longtime advocate for more
public toilets, aims to destroy the taboo around our
bodily functions by making his toilets the center of
attention. Check out his bright orange structure,
complete with a sign bigger than the actual toilets, and an attached café with an employee selling TBD items.
The facility will be moved every two to three weeks to different locations throughout the ci ty, and the entire
project is set to cost under $100,000.
