W EEKLY EDITION MAY 17, 2017 Manufacturer Input Requested on New Standards for Non - sewe red Waste Systems …continued If your company manufactures non - sewered waste systems, we need your input by MAY 24, 2017 ! Here is the current wording in the working draft: 4.8 Operating conditions 4.8.1 Ambient temperature range. Non - sewered sanitation sy stems shall operate safely and reliably in environments with ambient temperatures between 5°C and 50°C, which shall be understood as the requisite primary range for all systems complying with this document. Technologies designed for use in environments wit h ambient temperatures above or below this range shall additionally demonstrate their capability to operate safely and reliably in these expanded ambient temperature ranges. 4.8.2 Ambient air humidity. Non - sewered sanitation systems shall operate safely a nd reliably in ambient air humidity conditions between 20% and 100%. Technologies designed for use in environments with ambient air humidity above or below this range shall additionally demonstrate their capability to operate safely and reliably in these e xpanded ambient air humidity ranges. 4.8.3 Atmospheric pressure. Non - sewered sanitation systems shall operate safely and reliably under atmospheric pressure conditions ranging from sea level (101 kPa) to 2 500 m altitude (76 kPa). Technologies designed fo r use in environments with atmospheric pressure above or below this range shall additionally demonstrate their capability to operate safely and reliably in these expanded atmospheric pressure ranges. The PC 305 working group has discussed the above wordin g and while the current consensus is to leave the wording as is, the working group would like feedback from manufacturers in order to better understand the complexity of the technologies, efficiency and cost effectiveness. Some concerns identified include the following: • Temperature can vary seasonally • Temperature can go below 5 C in winter • Temperature variation also occurs within a single day, • Human habitats are also found above 2.5 km where atmospheric pressure is less than 76 kPa, and • In the desert humid ity can drop below 20%. This survey is intended to help the Working Group better understand the impacts of extending the range of temperature, pressure and humidity beyond what is currently defined in the standard. If you feel you have input regarding t he above topics, please notify the PSAI's Executive Director Karleen Kos ( karleenk@psai.org ) as soon as possible and she will provide you with access to the official survey instrument.
