Business Websites: The Why, What, and How …continued
By Chelsey Masich, PSAI Membership Coordinator
What to avoid (and why ):
• Poor design looks unprofessional. This includes:
o Too many fonts, colors, and textures.
o Too many items, making the site look cluttered.
o Hard to navigate and find information.
o Using different templates or styles for different pages.
• Inconsistent informati on makes it difficult to figure out which information is actually correct. A customer may move
on to another company instead of trying to figure out what is correct on your website. The most important
information to always keep correct and current includes :
o Contact information.
o Company leadership.
o Location.
• Automatic music or noises can easily annoy a customer looking at your website.
• Flashing, fast moving, or brightly colored graphics can be hard to read.
• Spelling or grammar errors can make you look unprof essional or lazy.
• Unnecessary pop ups can be annoying.
• Large sections of text are often difficult to read on websites.
• Leaving dated designs on your website leads customers to believe that you don't update your site or that you
may even be out of business.
