W EEKLY EDITION NOV 23, 2016 Joke of the Week It was the end of the day after Charlie and Lucy's family Thanksgiving gathering. The turkey had been eaten, the football games watched, and the obligatory game of Monopoly played. Lucy had worked hard all week, sung at church on Wednesday night, and had been up at 5 am preparing food for the holiday feast. She wanted to be done … but Charlie's relatives were still hanging around and it was now 10 pm. Looking meaningfully at her husband, Lucy said, "Honey, do you know the difference between an in - law and an outlaw?" "No," he replied, "but I am sure you'll tell me." "An outlaw is wanted." © Portable Sanitation Association International (PSAI) • 2626 E 82 n d Street, Suite 175 • Bloomington, MN 55425 www.psai.org • 952 - 854 - 8300 First Impressions of a PSAI Nuts and Bolts Conference …continued Rachel Johnson , the PSAI's Director of Marketing and Communications, gives her commentary after participating in her first industry event. When we left Minnesota for New Orleans, my goal was to soak up as much industry knowledge as I possibly could in 4 days. The PSAI Members at Nuts and Bolts provided fantastic information and explanations that allowed me to grasp just how multifaceted this industry truly is. While I expected to learn plenty, I did not expect to leave with such a new sense of purpose behind my role. Seeing a logo on a website banner ad is no longer just a foreign company to me; I have put hardworking identi ties behind these names. Putting together newsletter content is no longer for a generic list of emails; there are Members on that list that specifically mentioned to me how they open the newsletter every Wednesday. When I conceptualize content for the Indu stry Resource Directory, I have a drastically different understanding of who will be picking up that catalog and of the resources that may actually benefit them. This new perspective may be my most valuable takeaway from the conference. For those who sha red their insight with me, offered their ideas for future marketing endeavors, or simply allowed me to take their photograph for the 12 th time each day: I am grateful for it, thank you! While each of you listened to speakers, learned from panels, and took in site visits, I listened and learned from your knowledge of this in dustry and your hopes for this A ssociation. As you all were kind enough to offer your assistance to me, I'm glad to do the same for you. I can always be reached at rachelj@psai.org for any and all of your marketing commentary. I hope those of you who could join us had a similarly great time in New Orleans, and I look forward to seeing you all in Orlando come March!
