PSAI Association Insight, October 27, 2021 I 7 1971-72 Irvin Juster The first PSAI President was Irvin Juster of Duane Rentals of Schenectady, New York. A member of the Organizing Committee in January 1971, Irvin served as President in 1971 and his term ended in 1972. He reached out to several newspapers after the first "official" PSA Convention that was held in New Orleans in 1972 (after the initial meeting in Washington, DC, in 1971). His goal was to begin to publicize this new association while also promoting the relatively new portable restroom industry. PSAI Presidents To gain an appreciation of the size of some of these early PSA members, Duane Rentals reported 200 portable restrooms in a 1976 newspaper article in The Times Record of Albany, New York. A relative, Harold Hatkoff, had started this rental business in 1951. Growth and acceptance of portable restrooms was slow but steady. Ever the leader, Irvin Juster also served as President of the American Rental Association (ARA) in 1977-78. The ARA was then, and remains today, an ex- tremely large and important association in the rental industry.
