Time to Fly
By Karleen Kos, Executive Director
Last week, I shared with the PSAI Board that
I will be resigning as your Executive Director,
effective September 17.
The author C.S. Lewis, most famous for his
Chronicles of Narnia and several volumes on
faith-based topics, once said:
"It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird:
it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to
fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs
at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely
being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be
hatched or go bad."
It is not an exaggeration to say that working
with and for the portable sanitation industry
has been the biggest surprise and greatest
adventure of my life.

Pump Trucks:
The Workhorses
of Our Industry
By Jeff Wigley, PSAI Past President
Often, we presume the equipment we use today
is the same as what was used in the past. This
is certainly not the case. As we have seen from
our previous stories on pioneers of the industry
(which you can read in previous newsletters
or download from the PSAI Industry Resource
Library), handmade wooden restrooms gave
way to fiberglass units and then, ultimately,
to the polyethylene units that we enjoy today.
In a similar fashion, the pump trucks used for
servicing portable restrooms have changed
tremendously over the last half century. Each
component of these vehicles—truck, tank, and
vacuum pump—has its own interesting history.
