These professionals are trained to assume the worst about what is spilling. This is why it is important to have all SDSs available and to be aware that portable restroom waste is considered domestic septage and NOT hazardous waste. • Our trucks will carry evidence regarding the contents of our loads and SDSs for all chemicals on the vehicle at all times. Note: portable sanitation service trucks are only going to spill something classified as "hazardous" if (a) one or more of the chemicals or cleaners carried especially for a particular site is hazardous, (b) if we have unknowingly pumped something other than human waste and toilet tissue that is hazardous, or (c) if our vehicle has been damaged and is leaking something classified as hazardous. • Sometimes emergency responders will have been called by someone other than our personnel, and sometimes our personnel will alert them through the 911 system when the overall situation requires assistance. Either way, if our team member is capable (meaning not severely injured and unable to participate), s/he will communicate professionally with emergency responders about what is on the truck, follow their instructions for securing the scene for safely, and notify our designated company contact as soon as practicable. • Our company will then activate the major spills protocol. Usually this involves, at a minimum, dispatching additional resources to the scene to help with cleanup and notifying the company's insurance carrier. • If a customer site is affected, we will also communicate fully with our customer contact as information becomes available to us and work with them to restore any affected property to pre-spill conditions.
