Gladys Bird: Always Smiling and Always Inspiring…continued from page 21
That same year Gladys and Ron retired, and son David Harling took over at Ameri-Can. After retiring, the couple
split their time between Lake Manitou in Rochester, Indiana and Cocoa Beach, Florida. In 2018, the entire family
and their whole company celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Ameri-Can. The third generation of the family,
Keegan and Elizabeth Campbell, are now carrying on the legacy of
Gladys and Ron.
On a personal note, Gladys Bird was always an inspiration to me as an
example of a person who can be just as nice, kind, and inspirational
in business as in their personal life. I always felt a special closeness to
Gladys as she sometimes referred to me as "one of her Eagle Scouts."
Being in the same company with husband Ron and son David was both
flattering and humbling.
Gladys Bird has taken that final cruise to heaven, but her inspiration
and impact will remain in our industry and in our Association forever. v
