ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION DECEMBER 23, 2020 Page 10 Cold Weather Tips for Sinks…continued from page 2 According to Derek, this arrangement is a win-win. The customer probably already had the sink on the site and was paying rental on that. So Biffs just charges for the pick-up and delivery of the "sink house" and the rental of the heater. • Concept 2: Make use of the job trailer. On bigger worksites, job trailers are already present. There are a couple of different hot and cold water, single hand washing stations that do require power, and they are portable. They use a water system from another source such as Culligan. Biffs rents these hand wash units out to places that can put them into job trailers where they can be plugged in. The customer can either get the water service through Biffs or they can do the water service on their own. But it's basically got its own portable electric water heater and a bottle feed to create hand washing just like you would in your home sink. See graphic at right. The gray water either drains into another five gallon jug or, if the trailer has a drain there, the gray water can go down the floor drain. Derek says, "What I like about [this option] is that you can get good revenue for it and you're not necessarily having to go and service it all the time." He explains that Biffs is able to charge the customer for supplies and rent, but the unit doesn't require service as often as other sinks. • Concept 3: Invest in a hand wash trailer. At this point, not everyone has a hand wash trailer as show in the photo below. As the requirements for hand washing continue, it is likely these units will become more popular, and they can be good winter options for larger events or work crews. A trailer like this, much like a portable restroom trailer, will need to be prepared and maintained for winter weather. Ideally, it will be placed in a heated tent or in a warehouse or things like that. Biffs is already using a trailer like this when it is needed for larger customers. Although not shown in the photograph, Biffs has added stainless steel dividers between each station on the trailer due to COVID-19 precautions. This hand wash trailer is heated, and that keeps the water temperature tolerable for use on the skin. Placing it in a tent or warehouse helps keep the lines and other parts from freezing and creates a more comfortable user experience. Trailers like this can accommodate up to four thousand users which can come in pretty handy for big outdoor events and large job sites. Continued on page 11
