ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION SEPTEMBER 16, 2020 Page 7 It's Not Easy Being Green, but It's What We Do…continued from page 6 Recycling also saves energy. According to the Association of Plastics Recyclers, recycling polyethylene saves 88 percent of the energy it takes to start with new plastic and limits GHG emissions by 71 percent. This means it's a win-win for companies who incorporate recycled plastic resin into their new products, as well as for the public. Portable restroom manufacturers improve the environmental sustainability of their products and processes and reduce their energy costs by using recycled plastics. At the same time, we all benefit from the net energy and environmental savings. It's Not Easy Being Green Kermit the Frog made the song "It's Not Easy Being Green" his signature tune starting in 1970. The next year, the PSAI was formed. Throughout our history we have worked with portable sanitation operators and suppliers to promote environmentally friendly practices and bring this message to the public. It's something we'll continue to do as we work to achieve our vision of a world in which clean and safe sanitation is accessible to everyone. As described above, a portable restroom truly is and always was a green product…long before 'green' became fashionable. The easy availability and portability of our units has eliminated the need to build permanent restroom facilities in places where they would eventually not be needed, which is another way natural resources have been saved. In other parts of the world, where it isn't practical to build permanent restrooms, portables provide an alternative to open defecation, which is both a threat to public health and detrimental to the environment. These are only a few ways in which portable sanitation products and services have improved the health, safety, standard of living, and preservation of natural resources for all of us. Every time you see a portable restroom, consider that the portable sanitation industry and YOU are helping to save lives and contributing to a healthier, safer world where natural resources are preserved and people can live in dignity. v
