The year 2020 will be forever known as the year of the
Covid-19 pandemic and the year of unprecedented natural
disasters. To date:
• Wildfires have decimated portions of California, Oregon,
and Washington this summer. An estimated 4.6 million
acres of land have been destroyed so far.
• In California alone, roughly 3.3 million acres have been
burned by an astounding 7,718 fires.
• For the first time ever, 18 tropical cyclones have formed
before October in the Atlantic Ocean.
• In August, two hurricanes were in the Gulf of Mexico
simultaneously—Hurricane Laura and Hurricane Marco.
This event is unprecedented in recorded history.
