ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION SEPTEMBER 16, 2020 Page 13 Continued on page 14 PSAI Reaccredited as ANSI Standards Developer On Friday, September 11, 2020 the PSAI was notified that the Executive Standards Council of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has reaccredited the PSAI as a standards developing organization. The reaccreditation is effective immediately. The PSAI is currently responsible for three American National Standards (ANSs) covering topics related to sanitation in general and portable sanitation specifically. These standards will be updated in 2021 under the PSAI's newly updated and ANSI- approved standards development procedures. The organization will also be participating in the development of global standards concerning toilets, women-owned businesses, and other topics relevant to our industry. Emphasis on Openness and Consensus in Setting Standards That Affect the Entire Industry ANSI-accredited standards developers conduct their work in a manner that is open to public scrutiny and that provides every stakeholder with an opportunity to be heard, without dominance by any party. By adhering to the ANSI Essential Requirements, due process is ensured, and the playing field is leveled for all stakeholders. This contributes to the development of standards that benefit those who participate in the process, the general public, and the nation. The PSAI and other ANSI-Accredited Standards Developers offer processes that meet the Institute's requirements for: • openness • balance • lack of dominance • due process • consensus All ANSI-Accredited Standards Developers, including the PSAI, and all American National Standards are subject to ANSI's neutral third-party oversight via the ANSI Audit Program. The PSAI's procedures were most recently audited in 2019. Other checks and balances in place include appeals provisions, periodic review of procedures, and regular attestations by developers of compliance with ANSI's procedural requirements.
