ASSOCIATIONINSIGHT Portable Sanitation Association International News BIWEEKLY EDITION AUGUST 5, 2020 Page 8 Continued on page 9 Economic Outlook, Part II: Ideas from across the US By Jeff Wigley, PSAI Past President We hear about the economy from the national news, from local news, from newspapers, from magazines, and from the Internet. Each of these sources analyzes the overall economy of our country. But they are not experts in portable sanitation. So we must ask, "What about the economy as is relates to our industry?" To find out what is happening in that regard, we asked PSAI members to share their thoughts and experiences. From them we gained rich insight from both the supplier and operator perspectives as they reflected on the economic prospects of the portable restroom industry. Suppliers: • John Babcock, Satellite Industries • Mike Adams, PolyJohn Enterprises • Lindy Boehme, CPACEX Solutions • Mark Herring, Heffernan Insurance Brokers Operators: • Susan Edmunds, Edmunds Waste Removal in McKenney, Virginia • Brett Roques, Pit Stop in Atlanta, Georgia • Becky Peltzer, Waste Solutions of Iowa in Des Moines, Iowa • Wimberly Venegas, South Texas Waste Systems in Laredo, Texas • Carl Arriola, PortaPros in the Treasure Valley region of Idaho and Eastern Oregon Here are the questions we posed to each member: 1. How do you view the current economy as it pertains to your company? 2. How is your company performing as compared to last year? 3. What is your opinion of the future economy as it pertains to our industry? 4. Do you have any suggestions to pass on to your fellow PSAI members? John Babcock—Satellite Industries John has an excellent vantage point on the economics of our industry from a national as well as an international perspective. The first two words that he used to describe the economic condition of our industry were "fortunate" and "optimistic." John states that our industry is fortunate to be considered an "essential service" and that he is optimistic about the gains that portable sanitation has made during the COVID-19 pandemic. Being part of the "front line resource" during this time, hand washing and general sanitation needs have been major areas of concentration for Satellite. "Hand washing is off of the charts," according to John, and he sees an abundance of opportunities for operators. John Babcock
