Before your first meeting we spend half a day making sure that you are brought up to speed regarding our
strategic plan, committees and their goals for the year, the budgeting process, and the whole nine yards. That is
actually a great experience because the "old" Board and the newcomers meet and learn together, kicking off our
year with time spent looking ahead and getting on the same page. I promise you'll have much more fun than the
phrase "4-hour meeting" suggests is possible!
My Board years have been some of my best ever. In case you are thinking, "this sounds too easy," let me be
sure I am clear and straight with you. Being part of the Board is not a day at the beach. There is a time
commitment, as you must prepare for meetings, participate in committees and basically put yourself out there.
You'll find yourself juggling some balls and (if you are like most of us) dropping a few until you get the hang of it.
In time, though, you will become an expert juggler, and it will be incredibly rewarding. I know that I am glad I
took the plunge; my Board years have been some of the best ever.
Why not give it a try — take your turn, step up to run — and see if you've got some great years ahead to make
