An Im po rt an t Af - FAIR:
Suc ceed ing wi th Sp eci a l Event s
By Karleen Kos, PSAI Executive Director
I don't know how many portable units are required to meet
the needs of fair - goers. All I can say is, it's a big number.
Despite the fact that our fair has robust facilities including
fully sewered restrooms throughout the grounds, portable
units are strate gically placed everywhere you look. There are
more of them in the parking lots, and even more units at
dozens of remote shuttle bus staging areas throughout the
Twin Cities. I have observed equipment from at least four
local companies in use at fair - relate d locations this year.
In other words, this is the mother of all special events. It takes a tremendous amount of planning and
coordination to meet the needs of so many attendees, to keep the units clean and in good repair,
and generally to provide a good experience. How do they do it? We'll be touching on that at the
Nuts and Bolts Educational Conference in Houston during a panel discussion called "Winning Large
Special Events Contracts and Delivering Excellence on Site." The session is scheduled for Thur sday
afternoon November 7 and will feature operators from companies of various sizes that have
successfully gained and retained large special events contracts.
Meanwhile, here are some "how to" suggestions for troubleshooting issues with special events t hat
have been compiled by the PSAI's Training Committee.
