In order to initiate and construct an accreditable ce rtification program, the Commission immersed itself in the policies and procedures as set forth by the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE). Karleen attended the ASAE conference in Detroit in 2015 and met with members of ICE. It is the PSAI's inte ntion to join ICE in the coming year. The first order of business was to evaluate and analyze the position that we were certifying. This was, of course, the "backbone of our business" - the Route Service Technician. With the help of 18 companies, large and small, representing 13 states, Canada and Barbados, the Certification Commission received and reviewed the various job descriptions. After analyzing this massive amount of data, the Commission categorized this important position into five knowledge domains: Knowledge Domain 1 – Transportation and Logistics Knowledge Domain 2 – Servicing Portable Sanitation Equipment Knowledge Domain 3 – Safety and Hazard Management Knowledge Domain 4 – Recordkeeping Knowledge Domain 5 – Professional Demeanor and Conduct In 2017, some 119 of your Route Service Technicians then participated in a survey to validate these knowledge domains and the key competencies that are required for success in each area. Again, the respondents were geographically dispersed, repr esented varying company sizes, and had diverse years of job experience. This survey was then repeated in 2018 with company owners and managers in order to include their input. CONTINUED ON PAGE 1 6
