More Unjust Portable Restroom Press Coverage
Another publication takes a swing at portable toilets – this time
in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Read the story here . PSAI
Executive Director Karleen Kos s prang into action with the
following response – which was limited to 250 words.
I am writing in response to Paula M. Guerry's June 24 letter
concerning the condition of the portable restrooms at South Beach.
As the Executive Director of the Portable Sanitation Asso ciation
International (PSAI), I am always distressed to hear about situations like this
one. Our industry strives to deliver the best possible experience for users - and the public can help ensure
situations like this don't happen.
- Know who makes the d ecisions. Portable sanitation companies place and clean restrooms in conformity with
a contract. Find out which government body is responsible for the contracting and insist on better service for
your beach. Agencies are usually price - driven, so they obta in the lowest amount of units and service possible.
Tell them it isn't enough, and keep the telling them until they listen.
- Insist that the responsible parties meet standards. The PSAI publishes resources to assist decision - makers in
ensuring the right n umber and types of units are available, and that the service frequency is right. Citizens can
use these tools to encourage decision - makers to do the right thing. If they do, and the company's service is
subpar, consider filing a complaint with our associat ion. We can only help if the portable sanitation company is
a member - but we'll do our best.
We encourage citizens and governmental decision - makers to check out the resources available free
at www.psai.org or to call us with questions at +1 - 952 - 854 - 8300. We are here to provide better worksites,
better weekends, and a better world.
Regards,
Karleen Kos
