Continued Coverage of Sanitation Solutions in Developing Countries Yet another potential option for flush - free sanitation An organization named SOIL is helping communities in Haiti by capturing their human waste and redirecting it to boost food production and employment. They are introducing their dry container - based toilets to homes willing to pay $3 - 4 per month. The fee pays for installation, m aintenance, and weekly pickups of the waste, which is gathered at a central depot for transport to the countryside for composting. After nine months the rich compost is sold to farmers and local companies who use it to grow food and reforest much of the is land. Two SOIL staff members, Natalie Miller and Wisner Jean Louis say it's about returning to the technology that humans have always had at their disposal but were too into flush toilets to utilize. SOIL successfully brings our poop back into the game. R EAD THE STORY P AGE 10
