WEEKLY EDITION MAY 23, 2018 Company Spotlight: Wruck Sewer and Portable Rentals…continued By Rachel Johnson, PSAI Director of Marketing and Communications "Since taking over, we have more than doubled in size. We have bought out another portable toilet company and we started offering more special set up and deluxe trailers." When taking on this new venture in 2015, Valery knew she wanted to 'do good' locally. "I said if we can be successful in this industry, I want to give back to the local community and different organizations. To do this I bought 10 Pink portable toilets. Part of the proceeds from the rental [of these units] goes to Women In Need of Kindness (WINK) and Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA). We also sponsor events for veterans and a variety of local city events involving children." As the company has grown, so has their experience in the portable sanitation industry. When asked to name the most memorable event they have serviced, Valery stated how they don't have one. "I enjoy working and setting up all of them. We provide service to quite a few concerts and city events – they all have something or need something special to make it work. I look forward to all of them." Each event may be equal in her eyes, but Valery did mention a special moment she had on the job. "The most memorable experience I have had is when I was servicing a portable at a park and a little kid was playing with his mom," she said. "[He] was fascinated with the portable and what I was doing. So I went and talked to him and he wanted to help. I gave him gloves and he helped replace the toilet paper and put chemicals in the toilet. I will never forget how excited and happy he was. His mom said 'thank you for taking the time to show him – he watches you come to this portable every day and [he has] always wanted to come talk to you.'" This sweet memory offers encouragement for future perceptions of portable sanitation. Valery had equally positive remarks to share when discussing the benefits of our Association. "I enjoy reading all the material that is provided," she said. "I have been able to … use it on the job when talking to customers. One of the main things is when I recommend how many portables [customers] should have at an event or a job site. I use the [PSAI] charts provided to help them make a decision. Another helpful tool is the page that explains how, on a construction site, if you have the correct amount of portables it can save money." It's always interesting to hear of the unexpected or surprising aspects of the portable sanitation industry. Valery stated how she's "always surprised by the amount of people that don't understand what a portable toilet is. When they can see toilet paper [in the tank] they think the toilet is full." She said she is "also surprised by the amount of vandalism [that is done] to the units." The lack of public knowledge on portables and the frequent vandalism are just two things Valery learned when entering this industry. By joining the PSAI, companies like Wruck Sewer and Portable Rentals can learn how to handle the unexpected and how to operate at a higher industry standard. Valery sees the value in "being part of a group that has the portable toilet [industry's] best interests in mind." The PSAI will continue to focus on these best interests and we are glad to assist companies by providing informational materials on best practices. If your company has benefited in some way from joining the PSAI, don't hesitate to share your story with us. Contact Rachel and rachelj@psai.org. PAGE 2
