W EEKLY EDITION APRIL 11, 2018 Asking the Right Questions when Bidding on Work Site Contracts: A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned …continued By Karleen Kos, PSAI Executive Director Questions to Ask Your Customer For ALL Sites • Name of the contracting company or person o Is this the general contractor or a subcontractor? • Location of the work site(s) • Type of site (residential construction, commercial multi - story, urban/suburban/rural, etc.) • Days and times workers will be present o Number of days per week o Number of shifts o Hours per shift • How many workers will use these units? o If you are dealing with a subcontractor, what are the arrangements for units on the site? Do all subs get their own provider? If so, what measures will be in place to ensure other subs' personnel do n ot use these units? • Is this work site open to anyone besides construction personnel? o If yes, ADA and other rules apply • What is the estimated length of time this site will require units in days/weeks/months? • What is the nature of the work site? o What work will be done there? o How large is the area on which the work site exists? o Will there be multiple entrances/exits? o Will the work site be in essentially the same area for the duration or will it evolve as the project evolves? o Will there be any high - rise nee ds? o Will there be any night work? o Are there likely to be places where employees congregate? o Will there be a need for gender - segregated or VIP facilities? o Will our access to the site be limited to work hours or can we service when workers are not present? • W hat can you tell me about special circumstances or needs of which you may be aware? o Delivery/set up/service requirements (time restrictions, fencing, etc.) o Road restrictions, venue security or impediments to trucks arriving or departing the event site o Terrain issues (lack of flat surfaces, need for ramps or other path of travel accommodations, mud in wet conditions, etc.) • Depending on the location and type of soils in the area, will a 4 - wheel drive vehicle be a necessity? o Need for power, potable water, or other ancillary services o Will union labor with specific contractual expectations be present?
