30 2018 INDUSTRY RESOURCE DIRECTORY ANSI/PSAI Z4.1-2016: Sanitation in Places of Employment This standard applies to sanitation in all places of employment except where domestic, mining, or common carrier transportation work is performed. The content of the standard is primarily descriptive of minimum standards for sanitary conditions (housekeeping, waste disposal, pest control), lighting, ventilation, water, and toilet facilities in buildings that include indoor sewered toilets. It is relevant to portable sanitation because the minimum standards in all places of employment serve as the benchmark by which the adequacy of portable or temporary sanitation alternatives is measured. ANSI/PSAI Z4.3-2016: Sanitation in Non-sewered Waste Disposal Systems This standard applies to sanitary waste disposal systems for all places of employment where such systems are not connected to a sanitary sewer, septic tank, or on-site sewage disposal treatment facility. Its purpose is to assure that employees who don't have access to indoor sewered toilets are provided with healthful and adequate alternatives. The current minimum ratio of required units is shown in figures 1 and 2. ANSI/PSAI Z4.4-2016: Sanitation in Fields and Temporary Labor Camps This standard prescribes minimum environmental health requirements for camps (whether temporary or permanent) for temporary labor and for field sanitation. The purpose is to protect the health of these workers and, indirectly, the health of the public who may consume the agricultural produce from these fields. The standard covers living quarters, water supply, toilet facilities, hand washing and bathing facilities, insect control, and first aid, among other topics. The currently required ratio of toilet facilities and hand wash stations is shown in figures 1 and 2. Figure 1 Minimum Number of Toilet Facilities Figure 2 Minimum Number of Hand Wash Stations *For the purpose of this standard, the required numbers of hand wash stations are equipped with a minimum of one faucet. Care must be taken to ensure that the required numbers of stations are provided based on the type and style of unit being delivered.
