Denali National Park Service is proposing a new regulation that climber's lea ve no excrement behind. Glacier geologist Michael Loso estimates that up to 215,000 pounds of poop, some in biodegradable bags, has been dumped into crevasses on Kahiltna Glacier since 1951, and it is not decomposing as was expected. Because the waste does n't make it to the bottom, where extreme pressures and temperatures take over, it will likely come out downstream as the glacier melts faster than the annual snowfall. And since climbers melt snow for drinking water, this level of contamination can lead to life - threatening situations. As if there aren't enough of those already on an icy mountain - climb. Is Mount Denali ready for portable toilets? This opportunity could bring your business to new heights! READ THE STORY PAGE 11
