WEEKLY EDITION December 6, 2017 Building a Culture of Safety Part II: Communication By PSAI Executive Director Karleen Kos [This article is part of a series on Building a Safety Culture in your company. Part I covered Precursors to Serious Incidents. It is available here.] Unless on-the-job accidents and injuries are the result of meteors from outer space, it's safe to say these things occur because of some behavior that happened or failed to happen on the part of the employees.* Last week's article covered the typical accident precursors – things that don't cause an accident but which are often present before an accident occurs. This week we'll look at how employers, supervisors, and team members communicate about safety- related issues and behaviors. Meet 2018 Convention and Trade Show Speaker #1! Rafi Mohammed, bestselling author and founder of Culture of Profit, Inc., will kick off the program with his session on "The 1% Windfall: How Successful Companies Use Price to Profit and Grow" followed by his workshop on "The Art of Pricing" The new year is fast approaching which indicates one thing at the PSAI office: we are already hard at work preparing for the 2018 Convention and Trade Show in Portland, Oregon. The annual event, which will feature an updated schedule, extended trade show floor hours, and can't-miss speakers, will run from March 21 to March 24 at the Portland Convention Center. The event begins with a keynote session, delivered by a guest speaker invited to educate our Members on a pertinent industry topic. Rafi Mohammed is the author of two bestselling business books, The 1% Windfall: How Successful Companies Use Price to Profit and Grow and The Art of Pricing. He will deliver both a session and a workshop on both of these topics, specifically applying his teachings to the portable sanitation industry. Mr. Mohammed's sessions will be filled with valuable information for both operators and suppliers; you won't want to miss either of his presentations.
