PSAI Announces Alliance with OASIS…continued
At the OASIS meeting last week, PSAI Executive Director
Karleen Kos delivered the newly adapted Ontario version of the
Basic Service Technician Training Course to a sold-out room of
portable restroom operators. She was assisted by a panel of
portable restroom operator-experts from Ontario who were able
to answer specific on-the-ground questions and speak to issues
that are unique to Ontario.
One or more representatives from the Ontario Ministry of Labor
(MOL) had been expected to sit in on the course. Though they
did not attend, the OASIS team is confident that an ongoing
alliance with the PSAI will ultimately be beneficial to the operators in Ontario, and whatever minor adjustments to
the curricula may be required by the MOL can be made as they become known.
"This alliance is a win-win for the Members of the PSAI and OASIS," says Kos. "OASIS gains access to well
researched and carefully developed training materials that are specific to the portable sanitation industry without
having to reinvent the wheel. The PSAI gains a new market for its training program and access to expertise on our
committees."
To further the alliance, OASIS has agreed to place representatives on key PSAI volunteer groups to assist in the
development of courses and exams. Numair Uppal, Executive Director of OASIS (pictured below, right, with
Karleen Kos) will serve on the PSAI Training Committee and Wanda Inglis, C&P Portable Toilets, will serve on the
PSAI Certification Commission. These representatives are Members of both organizations, and their presence will
foster the development of Ontario-specific materials in tandem with the development of US-focused materials.
