It Pays to be Proactive with Portables
New developments have occurred as San Diego continues to battle a Hepatitis A outbreak
Recently released public records reveal hundreds
of emails sent between city and county officials
regarding San Diego's Hepatitis A outbreak.
Although preventative measures were discussed
as far back as June, including adding more
portable restroom units and wash stations
throughout the city, no plan was implemented
until August. In an effort to raise public
awareness, the city then placed 150 educational
posters around the city. But with 10 dead and
over 200 infected by that time, the measure was too litt le, too late. Now, as the communication over the
issue is scrutinized, it is clear that "pointing fingers" is a deadly game.

The Flush Out Cancer campaign is back for its
third year and off to a great start. Canadian

money for Br east Cancer awareness. One
business, the Canadian Engineering and Tool Co. already raised over $5000 on Monday. "It's a great
cause", says worker Brian Hann, who asked his boss if they could take part in the campaign. "We've got a
very generous bunch of gu ys and a very generous owner . " Each participating company must raise $100
by 4:00pm if they want the portable toilet removed from their property. As an added perk, they then get
to choose which company is next. As CCS's fundraising specialist, Kelly O'Rour ke points out: it's a great
way to "show your friends, your colleagues, (and) your competitors that you're here to help."
