WEEKLY EDITION September 13, 2017 Leading the PSAI into the Future By Karen Holm, Past Pre sident As our Executive Director Karleen Kos has reminded me, my "last hurrah" or official duty for the PSAI is to chair the Nominating Committee that is responsible for recruiting talented, dedicated and committed PSAI Members that have a passion for the ir companies, this industry and the Portable Sanitation Association International. Our 2017 - 2018 Board recruitment, nomination and election cycle is upon us - and yes we are looking for PSAI Members that are willing and able to advance the mission of the PSAI into the future. What does that mean? Simply put it means we need you! We need you to take time to consider if the leader we need could be you. We need you to consider if this may be the right time for you to "give back" and "pay it forward." We nee d you to understand that the PSAI needs committed volunteers, active and engaged committee members, a knowledgeable and professional Board full of advocates for the mission, vision and goals of the PSAI - people who will make decisions that are in the best interest of the PSAI. We need you to know that although we are truly blessed with an amazing Executive Director and staff, our association simply cannot run effectively witho ut an active and engaged Board. Hurricane Irma An inside scoop from PSAI Members affected by the recent hurricane by Rachel Johnson, PSAI Director of Marketing If you've checked any news outlet over the last few weeks, turned on your television, or logged onto a computer, chances are you have seen a portion of th e recent hurricane coverage wreaking havoc in the Atlantic. First, Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas on August 25, causing catastrophic damage and leaving the lone star state flooded with water. Following close behind, Hurricane Irma drove through mul tiple islands in the Caribbean during the first week of September, before hitting Florida just this past weekend. These natural disasters have undoubtedly impacted the people located in these areas – but they've also impacted the portable sanitation indust ry. With multiple PSAI Members located in the affected locations, we reached out to a few of them in hopes of understanding what exactly they are going through from a personal standpoint and from a business standpoint. Given the circumstances, many were un able to be reached. However, we touched base with a few of our Caribbean Members and a few of our Florida Members in the hopes of shedding light on the resiliency of these companies and covering how they prepared for these disasters.
