W EEKLY EDITION SEPT 6, 2017 Meet 2017 Nuts and Bolts Speaker Kevin Henderson Dr. Kevin Henderson, Professor at the University of St. Thomas, will give a two - part session on Saturday, November 4, titled "Attracting and Retaining Employees Part I: You Owe It to Them" and "Part II: Strategies for the Portable S anitation Industry" Dr. Henderson is an Associate Professor of Management at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He teaches organizational behavior and human resources at both the undergraduate level and in Flex MBA programs. He earned his Ph.D. in business administration from the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. His research interests include psychological contracts, turnover, managing your boss, and the use of social media in selection. His primary area of research is on the psychosocial contract breach, which focuses on the effects of broken organizational promises on employee attitudes and behaviors. This "breach in contract" and how it affects employee retention is what will drive much of his presentation at our Nuts and Bolts Educational Conference. Over the last five years, he has had three peer - reviewed journal articles, including a forthcoming article in the Journal of Management. He has presented his research at multiple Academy of Managem ent meetings and serves as an ad - hoc reviewer for the International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Managerial Issues and Academy of Management Annual Meeting, where he has received multiple Outstanding Reviewer awards. Dr. Henderson is a n expert on what employees think you owe them – and what you can expect from employees in return. It is called the "psychological contract," as mentioned above, and in part one of his session you will learn how it works, what happens when it is broken, and what you can do to strengthen the ties your employees have to your company that go well beyond the pay and benefits package. He will also share information on what you can do to make changes, if needed. Part two of the "Attracting and Retaining Employees " session will involve Dr. Henderson's "Attracting and Retaining Talent" class. His students will be spending the fall semester working on an in - depth human resources project for the PSAI. They will dig deep into the issues that affect your company's abili ty to recruit, hire, and retain qualified service technicians, dispatchers, sales staff, and other key employees. They will present ideas on job descriptions and recruitment tactics to help you build the best team for your company. His students will report on the status of their four - month project in November, highlighting their findings. As an exciting bonus, after the conference, the PSAI will receive a full report tailored to our industry that outlines suggested pay and benefits strategies. We are excit ed to have Kevin Henderson – and his students – as a part of our program this year! Keep checking future editions of Association Insight , as we continue to unveil more information about our 2017 Nuts and Bolts Educational Conference.
