W EEKLY EDITION AUG 30, 2017 Oh, the Places Your Portable Unit Will Go A portable restroom at a music festival in Hungary took users on quite a unique journey When most attendees use the portable restrooms at a music festival, they aren't squeezing past one another with excitement to get inside. The unfortunate truth is that porta - potties are often found in less than perfect condition at long - lasting concerts – and they certainly aren't sought out on festival grounds unless relieving oneself. However, as one article put it, organizers of the Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary "turned a portable toilet from the highway to hell into a stairway to heaven." Festiva l attendees opened an unassuming Toi Toi portable unit, still intact with hand dryers on the wall, only to find a passage way to a "secret rave." An inflatable room filled with concertgoers dancing amongst strobe lights and EDM music was attached to the ba ck of the portable restroom unit – as shown in the video featured with the article. According to the concert attendee who filmed the video, Fabian Ruivenkamp, this is the first year the festival has done something like this, as he did not hear about such a toilet when he attended last year. According to Ruivenkamp, "no one at the festival crew told us about it so it was really a secret party." Sziget Festival is a "multi - genre island festival" that "ran from [August 9 to August 16] this year, attracting 450 ,000 people." Ruivenkamp summarized the unique concert by stating, "This is why I love Sziget… Just open a random toilet and there is a secret party going on." Needless to say, the stunt made sure that Toi Toi toilets left a memorable, pos itive impression on those lucky enough to find the party. READ THE STORY AND WATCH THE VIDEO Notice for MN - based Portable Sanitation Companies This week, PSAI Executive Director Karleen Kos sent out a "special call for MN operators" regarding potential changes to the Minnesota Department of Revenue's sales tax laws. View the message below: Dear Minnesota Operator Members, The Minnesota Department of Revenue is considering changes to its interpretation of the sales tax law affecting the portable sanitation industry, Minnesota Statute 270C.07. The new interpretation would, in effect, make both the rental and the service of units/equipment subject to sales tax, which I understand some of you are not currently charging for both. Please see the attached notice for more information. Click here to read . As an Association, we have been asked to provide feedback regarding the change. You can give this input in one or more of the following ways: • Join the PSAI on a teleconference call Wednesday, September 13 at 3:00pm central time.
