Industry Love at Lollapalooza
The industry received wonderful publicity in Time Out Chicago for the toilets at this year's Lollapalooza, the
annual music festival that takes place in Chicago's Grant Park
For the last 26 years, concertgoers have flooded Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois for the multiple-day music festival known as
Lollapalooza. With an impressive lineup of artists that span multiple genres, the event continues to be a huge success each year.
In fact, 2016's lineup brought over 400,000 attendees to the Windy City to watch 170 bands play across 8 stages. That is no small
feat for a single festival. With such a well-known name and a huge fan following, coverage of the festival normally highlights the
great performances, the enthusiastic crowds, or even some of the new, exciting food options available for attendees. Coverage
of 2017's festival, however, elaborated on the lavatories.
PSAI Member Sanitrax implemented an exciting new feature to this year's festival – vacuum toilets and urinals. Concertgoers had
become accustomed to standard portable restrooms in years past, which made these flushable toilets an undeniable upgrade. In
fact, many news outlets covering the event mentioned, highlighted, or praised the change. One such writer wrote the following
sentiment:
"Lollapalooza bathrooms were the greatest wiz performance of the day (sorry, Wiz Khalifa). After 13 years in Grant Park, the gigantic festival has
finally upgraded its bathroom situation with toilets that actually flush. Yes, flush. Instead of porta-potties, all general admission bathrooms are
now individual stalls with flushable toilets. Plus, there are dedicated groups of urinals for guys to use, freeing up more toilets for the ladies. While
it may sound sarcastic, I genuinely think this upgrade makes a huge difference in the average festival-goer's experience. Instead of holding our
bladders until we're about to burst just to avoid stepping into a porta-potty, we can pee in relative comfort."
When considering Lollapalooza is such a large-scale event, it was fabulous to see the industry get some well-deserved positive
press, compared to the stereotypical narrative of festival porta-potties facing negative flack. READ THE STORY
